RBI has made a big disclosure that ₹ 2000 notes will be closed now. Reserve Bank of India has announced to withdraw the currency of ₹ 2000. What is the reason behind this and why RBI has taken this step, let us know -
RBI recently announced that ₹ 2000 currency will be closed now, however, till 30 September 2023, you can deposit this currency in the bank.
Is . Know how much money can be changed at a time - For the convenience of operations and to avoid disruption in the regular activities of banks, the limit for changing ₹ 2000 notes in a day has been kept up to 20000. And keeping this in mind, RBI has kept the note exchange date till September 30, 2023.
RBI issued Guidline for banks - While issuing guidelines for banks, RBI directed all banks not to issue ₹ 2000 notes from now on. Along with this, banks were asked to encourage them to deposit ₹ 2000 notes by 30 September 2023.
Reason for the closure of ₹ 2000 note - Although the printing of ₹ 2000 note was stopped in 2018-19 itself. And RBI said that more than 89% of the ₹ 2000 notes were issued before March 2017.
It was said behind the closure of ₹ 2000 note that usually 2000 note is not used in transactions by the middle class. And the currency requirement of the public can be easily met with the help of other currencies running in the market.
From when will the currency of ₹ 2000 be converted
To give time to banks to make preliminary arrangements, members of the public are requested to approach bank branches or regional offices of RBI from May 23, 2023 to avail the exchange facility.
Means common man can go to banks after May 2 and get his 2000 rupee note currency corrected. Keep in mind that the limit for changing at one go will be Rs 20,000 only.
